VOLCOM GARDEN EXPERIENCE 2024

The Volcom Garden Experience mini festival returned to PIER15 in Breda, Netherlands, for an epic 2024 edition on Saturday, June 22!

After three months of rain, summer was welcomed the proper way: live music, skateboarding, DJs, a creative market, good food, refreshments, and tons of smiles.

The übercool venue proved once again they know how to throw a party. Jimmy De Kok and Jeroen Reek (from Iguana Death Cult band) immediately set the vibe from the DJ booth in the afternoon while people enjoyed the creative market.

The market included stalls from bands' merch, Le Cèpe records label, Babette Bakermans illustrations, Superreal prints, PP Straatburg paintings and camera sculptures, Stickit zines and prints, Timber illustrations, Bonk skate store shoe sale, Jesse “yunghuilie” free haircuts, and the Volcom booth with products and games to win eyewear and goodies.

Huge thanks to all exhibitors for being part of this!

Live bands started with a great show from GURL (Fr), efficient and straight grunge/garage—better check these three guys before they get big!

Then POODLE (Nl) band from the Netherlands was like a refreshment on a hot afternoon, and after them, the action moved to the skate bowl where tons of prizes were given to amateurs and kids.

The stage area then filled up with PHOENICIAN DRIVE (Be), who provided a psychedelic trip with some Middle Eastern sounds and rhythms and solid guitar riffs.

Spirits were getting high while the sun peeked out from the clouds.

SMUDGED (Nl) followed up and ignited the pit.

Everyone went wild as they transferred raw energy to the audience — green faces, spits, and middle fingers — no f%cks given!

The second skate break followed with a cash-for-tricks session in the bowl, pimped for the occasion by Nineyard Skateparks with a rail above the coping, a weird extension, and a micromega jump, while DJ Tony Garagist took over the turntables.

Lots of stuff went down, but highlights were Bart Buikman’s backside smith on the rail in the bowl, Nick Bax’s back-to-back frontside and backside tail slide on it, Jeroen Bruggeman’s fly outs, and Lewis Weber’s endless lines — not to mention the Belgium crew that came full force.

Suddenly, a rainbow rail was added, and skaters had 10 minutes to get it for more cash.

In the blink of an eye, it was switched again into a long down rail where the action peeked and more cash given…

Back to the main stage, KARKARA (Fr) from Paris hypnotized the audience with their prog/stone sounds surrounded by mystical sunbeams and delivered a great show.

MELTHEADS (Be) closed the event with another level of energy. As the lights got even trippier, their frontman’s stage presence was intense, and their hits finished off those who hadn’t blacked out yet.

Another band for you to check out!

Big thanks to everyone involved in making it a success and those who came to party with us — this was another one for the books!

MELTHEADS

Meltheads have been spreading wildfire on stages in Belgium and The Netherlands for a good while now, driven by the metronomically tight rhythm section of Tim Pensaert (bass) and Simon de Geus (drums), and fuelled by the razor-sharp and skilful guitar of Yunas de Proost. And then there’s frontman Sietse Willems, a man born to be on stage, like Morrison, Plant and Iggy Pop in one brutal and gnarly package. On 9 February they released their long-awaited debut album ‘Decent Sex’

KARKARA

KARKARA means “Punks / Slackers” in Tunisian.
Slackers because we all feel out of place in this society that gives us the feeling of going 240 km/h into a wall and we don’t want to go there. So if we’re going to crash into that wall it better off be a wall of amps, and if we can get high in the process it’s even better.

GURL

Gurl is a french garage surf rock trio from Paris suburbs.
The band induces us to go back to a spontaneous youth. Influenced by the Australian rock scene (Skeggs), surf and garage rock (Dinosaur Jr, Black Lips) and by the first punk wave (Buzzcocks) ,the band delivers a nervous, catchy and instinctive music.
Gurl reflects a collective enthusiasm, this desire to smile, dance by its solar music.
